Evolution of American Space Flight Play Set

Tell the story of NASA's triumphant history in human spaceflight with ten rockets and space planes, all in one beautifully crafted set.

The set includes five vertical launch spacecraft:

• The Mercury Redstone rocket lifted the first two astronauts -- Alan Shepard and Gus Grissom -- into suborbital flight.
• The Mercury Atlas rocket carried John Glenn into the first American manned orbital flight, and followed with three more human missions of the Mercury era.
• The Gemini Titan rocket carried ten pairs of NASA astronauts to orbit during the Gemini era. The first American spacewalk was conducted during one of these missions.
• The Apollo Saturn V launched all of the moon missions, including the one that took Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the first lunar landing.
• The Space Transportation System, also known as the Space Shuttle. The orbiter in this set separates from the external tank and twin solid rocket boosters.

The set also includes five reusable space planes with working wheels:

• X-15: 1950’s hypersonic rocket plane that flew into the reaches of space.
• X-20 Dyna-Soar: from the 1960s. “The Space Shuttle that almost was.”
• X 24A: experimental lifting body from the 1970s.
• Space Shuttle Orbiter: Shown as it lands.
• X-38: A proposed emergency rescue vehicle for the Space Station.

Each of the vehicles is 3 to 5 inches tall.
